I downloaded the Nero 7 using BitTorrent, the file was a 77.3MB UHA file which was compressed from 545MB original data with the ratio of only 14.2%.

Then I did a test, I decompressed the 77.3MB UHA file to a folder, and then use different compression to re-compress the folder back to a new compression file.

Wonder what I found out? Read more and you will see amazing numbers…

Conclusion:

The Directory Size is the most important thing…I would always choose 32MB Directory size for faster and smaller file.

For the smallest file: WinUHA with ALZ:3 mode with Directory 32768KB is the winner with 77.3MB.

For the fastest compression: WinZIP 9.0 with Super Fast is the winner with only 30 sec, but file size is too big!!

The best combination I would use:

WinUHA with LZP(Fast) mode with Directory 32768KB for fast compression. Compression time doubles, but the file is only 44% of WinZIP.

WinUHA with ALZ:2 mode with Directory 32768KB for normal compression.
File is only 0.5% larger than ALZ:3 mode, but saves 24% of the time.

WinUHA with ALZ:1 mode with Directory 32768KB is another choice
File is only 1% larger than ALZ:3 mode, but saves 40% of the time.

WinUHA is a very good software. I just donated 5 Euro, and wish it would become as popular as zip and rar in a few years time…
